Alpine Chamber meeting offered business help, local castle mixer

By the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce

Business financing and an invitation to a free mixer at the Alpine Castle highlighted the latest “Hot Topics Business Breakfast” of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce!

Keli Anthis of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for the San Diego and Imperial Network and James Lindeen, owner of the Alpine Castle, kept the crowd’s attention at Janet’s Montana Café at 2506 Alpine Blvd.

A business advisor for the SBDC, Anthis quickly covered the wide range of mostly free services the agency offers businesses.

The center provides business advisors and training, workshops, planning, marketing on a shoe string, access to capital, working with social media and more.

“You all are paying for this service through your tax dollars,” Anthis said. “There’s a lot of different things that we can do.”

In 2017 the SBDC South San Diego branch reported starting 68 new businesses; creating 103 new jobs, a $5.9 million sales increase and $14 million in capital infusion.

The Alpine Castle evening mixer scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, off  Eltinge Place drew quick interest. No more reservations are available for the evening of good networking, socializing and a tour of the beautiful unusual home.

“Most people know it’s kind of a precious little gem in the town,” Lindeen told the group.  “We’re interested in preservation of the property. It’s really grandiose.”

The interior of the 17,000-square-foot building, available for event/overnight rentals, is beautifully decorated. The huge deck offers spectacular sunset views of the mountain foothills.

An intriguing history as well as creative design is part of the adventure at the home.

The evening opens the Chamber’s 2018 “It’s After 5 Somewhere” upcoming evening mixers, which are open to the public.

After the breakfast meeting Realtor Rachell Lara, who signed up for the Alpine Castle mixer, said she found the SBDC information interesting.

“It definitely got me to thinking about how I can be using that,” Lara said.

In other business, the Chamber welcomed new or renewing members Susan Hobbs of Alpine, Mtn. Hempire and Alpine Shell and Car Wash.
