  • Radio stations to feature Alpine, Honorary Mayor

    • Share:

Alpine’s 2018 Honorary Mayor Jennifer Tschida will be heard on five radio stations this weekend in the San Diego/Murrieta area!

The program about Alpine and what the annual Honorary Mayor’s Race does for the foothills community is scheduled to run on two networks about 7:30 p.m. this Sunday, June 3.

Called “Closer Look,” the 25-minute show will be on K-LOVE and AiR1 FM stations 96.1 in Campo; 102.1, Encinitas; 92.1, Escondido; 100.1, Julian, and 104.1, Murrieta.

Interviewer Dan Beck, regional public affairs manager for K-LOVE and Air1, urges people to tune in early in case the program ahead of the local “Closer Look” ends sooner than expected.

Beck also talked with Executive Administrator Jeff Morris of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce for the show. The Chamber sponsors the annual Honorary Mayor’s Race to fund improvements and good causes in Alpine.

“I think it’s so cool that the Chamber does something like this (Honorary Mayor’s Race) to raise money for different groups,” Beck said. “We (K-LOVE and AiR1) look for the positive and good things.”

Tschida, associate publisher of The Alpine Sun newspaper, raised thousands of dollars to fund research to help defeat mitochondrial disease.

It is a disorder that occurs when structures that produce energy for a cell malfunction. Most prevalent in children, mitochondrial disease can be deadly and hard to diagnose.

Tschida and three other 2018 candidates earned a record-breaking total of more than $22,000 for four causes. Each dollar donated to a campaign counts as a vote.

Sallie Brown of Mary Kay Cosmetics, chairwoman of the Chamber’s Ambassadors, raised money for her Adopt-A-Grandparent USA program of holiday cheer for elderly assisted living residents.

The money Caity Yaussi of the Alpine Education Foundation earned provides exceptional programs for local students. Candidate Louis Russo funded school classroom supplies and teachers’ “wish lists.”
