Firehouse cooking contest, other events heating up
It’s going to be a hot time in Alpine on Thursday, June 7, at the Alpine Library’s 7th Annual Firehouse Cookoff!
Taste test the culinary talents of Viejas, Alpine and Sycuan firefighters starting at 6 p.m. This year the departments are creating potato dishes in a sizzling contest to get votes for best cooking.
The library staff at 1752 Alpine Blvd. has added a Junior Division for Scouts and other youth organizations. The young people are creating pretzel desserts!
Everyone is invited to this free community event. Just show up hungry!

There’s music in the air from “Beethoven to Broadway” on Friday, June 8, at the Alpine Library!
Starting at 7 p.m., Bruce Dorcy on French horn and Beverly Reese-Dorsey on piano will present a free concert with selections from famous composers.
The Alpine Library Friends Association is presenting this performance of upbeat pieces by composers Beethoven, Mozart, Saint-Saens, Cherubini, Burt Bacharach, Jerry Bock, Mitch Leigh and Henry Mancini! There’s music for everyone!

Great food, a Dana’s Boutique Fashion Show, an auction and more starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd. Sip mimosas and socialize. Shop at exclusive vender booths!

Some Festival booths at the Alpine Community Center Park at 1830 Alpine Blvd. are still available, too. Booths are $10 for non-profit vendors and $40 for others.
The day of patriotic activities is presented by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine, the Chamber and the Alpine Community Center.
The only parade requirement is that every entry must be decorated in red, white and blue. The line-up starts at 9 a.m. on Victoria Drive. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. down Alpine Boulevard toward the festival’s game booths, bounce house, live band and food!
