The board of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce and four new directors were sworn in on Oct. 29 for 2018-1019 at the Chamber’s annual installation dinner!
State Senator Joel Anderson performed the honors during an evening with a blazing sunset and lots of chatter at VFW Bert Fuller Post 9578 at 844 Tavern Road in Alpine. The Senator also swore in the Chamber’s Ambassadors.
New Chamber Executive Director Alex Ward welcomed everyone.
“I’m extremely excited to be with this organization,” Ward said. “It seems to be a real push forward to a new Chamber.”
He read the charge and oath of office, which requires everyone to take their responsibilities seriously while furthering the Chamber’s goals and mission.
The mission is to “advance the commercial, industrial, civic, agricultural and general interest and prosperity of the communities we serve.”
Those communities are spread over almost 2,000 square miles in Southeast San Diego County. They include the towns of Alpine, Boulevard, Campo/Lake Morena, Descanso, Guatay, Harbison Canyon, Jacumba, and Pine Valley.
Anderson handed out installation certificates to everyone, including board Director Chris Wiley of Primary Residential Mortgage, Inc, the new Chairman of the Board, and Rose Signore of Postal Annex of Alpine, new Director of Proceedings.
Vice Chairman Bob Ring of Alpine Baron’s Market and Director of Finance Jan Morse of On Line Bookkeeping & Tax Service will continue in their positions.
Immediate Past Chamber Chairman Joseph Perricone of The Canvas Makers is still a Chamber Director.
John Hickman, Cox Communications finance manager; James Lindeen and Fernanda Winslett, owners of the Alpine Castle, and Sallie Brown, senior sales director of Mary Kay Cosmetics, are new Board Directors.
“It’s my first Chamber installation,” said Hickman.  “Ultimately my desire is to help the communities . . . help as much as I can. Helping where I can add value.”
Also taking the oath as Chamber Ambassadors were new Ambassadors’ Chairman and former Chamber Director Jeff Campbell of San Diego Estates; Carol Morrison, Alpine Historical Society; Patty Tweed, Soroptimist International of Alpine; Roger Garay, On Line Bookkeeping & Tax Service, and Richard Edwords of Kamps Propane.
New Board Director Brown has long been Chairwoman of the Chamber’s Ambassadors.
“It feels different,” Brown said after the installation. “I’m missing the Ambassadors’ position, but I’m looking forward to participating in making the decisions and supporting the communities as a board member.”
